IRS Notice For ITIN CP565. CP566, CP567

IRS notices are letters sent to inform taxpayers of important tax information. Some of the common notices related to ITINapplication are notice CP565, notice CP566, notice CP567 (you will find this number on the right corner of the letter).

Notice CP566
If you had applied for the Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) and after 6 to 8 weeks of wait time, you received a letter from IRS with Notice CP566. The reason you have received this notice is due to incomplete Form W7 or missing out any important information required for the ITIN application approval. This notice is issued by the IRS asking for more information or supporting documents before approval of the ITIN from the applicant.

Action required – you need to reply to the notice within 45days estimated or deadline date on the notice, if you don’t take prompt action your ITIN application will be rejected.

Notice CP565
If you received a Notice CP565, then its great news your ITIN is successfully approved, when you receive this letter just ensure the name, date of birth details are correct so any error on these details would not cause any issue later when you file your 1040NR/1040 US tax return or tax refund claim.

Notice CP567
If you received a Notice CP567, then it’s not good news from the IRS stating that your ITIN application is rejected and you will need to re-apply,  click here Reasons for ITIN rejection

Action required – you need to send in a new application and ensure the application is completed and all supporting documents are correct and passports are certified by appropriate IRS approved acceptance agents

Advantages of taking the service via CAA

What happens to your tax return(1040/1040NR) if the ITIN application is rejected with a CP567 notice issued?
IRS team will process your 1040/1040NR tax return without an ITIN (i.e issue a temporary number or IRSN number allocated to the tax return). If you are expecting a refund from 1040/1040NR tax filing, You’ll need to reapply for an ITIN by completing FormW7 and attach a copy of the passport certified and resend tax return to receive your refund.

We are one of the acceptance agents(Acceptance Agent VS CAA) with many years of experience with the ITIN application process.
