FORM W7 – How to fill in Form W7?

What is FORM W7?

Form W7 is used to apply for a US TAX ID Number also commonly asked as ITIN (Individual Tax Identification Number). The W7 form may look straightforward to complete however any small error on the Form W7 completion would lead to ITIN application rejection and the time involved in the application process could be between 6 to 8 weeks. If you are in process of applying for a new ITIN application or renewing your existing ITIN (ITIN renewal) you can download this Form W7 complete this form and submit the application along with supporting documents a valid original passport copy to the IRS mailing address on this link.

Common Mistakes Made by the Applicant While Filling Form W7

1) Incomplete completion of the Form W7.

2) Not sending in original passport when Certified Acceptance Agent not used for certification.

3) If the applicant sends the passport copy certified by Notary or Apostille is NOT VALID because the IRS ITIN office does not accept the notarized certification. Below is the note from the IRS ITIN office “ A notarized document is one that the taxpayer provides to a public notary who bears witness to the signing of the official document and affixes a seal assuring that the document is legitimate. These documents will not be accepted for ITIN applications”

4) Not enclosing tax return 

5) Not enclosing correct supporting documents for LLC, Parnership, FIRPTA.
