Once we are done and dusted with the tax filing no one wishes to receive notices from the tax authorities asking for more information especially when you waiting for a refund to be received from the revenue, once you have filed your ITIN along with the 1040NR tax return and eagerly waiting for your refund and you receive an envelope from IRS and you open it with a hope of the refund cheque however to your disappointment it’s a notice letter from IRS with reference number CP54B. In this blog we are going to discuss on ITIN and how to respond to the CP54B Notice.

Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)

An individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) is a tax processing number, issued by the Internal Revenue Service,

Only individuals who have a valid tax filing requirement or are filing a U.S. federal income tax return to claim a refund of over-withheld tax are eligible to receive an ITIN. ITINs are used for tax purposes only and are not intended to serve any other purpose. More details on the ITIN and why you need to check this blog.
